Dot Plot Shows Seven Rate Hikes in 2022

The Fed meetings will start to raise rates slow and start to raise the magnitude of its hikes, says Joe Brusuelas, Chief Economist at RSM. He says the future of Fed meetings include rate hikes, balance sheet reductions, forecasts that are revised down and repeat. Inflation spikes higher during war and economic conflict, he says. He is not expecting a U.S. recession, but it's likely in Europe, he adds. The dot plot shows seven rate hikes in 2022, but Joe thinks it's almost impossible to put a forecast together that will last more than two to three months. Joe stresses that balance sheet reduction by the Fed is key to medium and long-term inflation expectations anchored to 2.5%.
