Jim Bianco believes we may be witnessing a short term rally in bonds and a drift lower in rates because the Fed did not indicate an interest rate hike for years. However, Jim expects rates to continue to resume a steady climb higher which is a case for not being long bonds. Accordingly, Jim says the most important issue at the moment if what the Fed intend to do about the supplemental leverage ratio exemption afforded to financial institutions in the midst of the pandemic downturn. Jim thinks the Fed telegraphed the intent to extend the exemption, which may alleviate some balance sheet concerns for financial institutions.
