How Today’s Inflation Compares To The 1970s

“My concern regarding today’s CPI report was the core data. There are similarities to 1970s inflation as government spending is high, the monetary supply has expanded, and oil prices are higher. However, differences include inflation not lasting as long, government believing that higher inflation equals higher employment, and the structure of the economy,” says Gene Goldman. How can investors move forward with rumors about stagflation and inflationary recession? “The bond market will impact economic growth. I do not see a recession for 2022 as there is a strong labor market and supply chains are improving,” Goldman adds.
