"Long-term investors should rarely, if ever, suffer more than a 25% loss," says Mark Eidem. He believes that this type of loss requires a 33% gain on the capital remaining just to break even and it gets worse from there. He says that one of the reasons investors hold losing trades is the fear of leaving money on the table or the fear of selling to see the stock turn quickly higher.
